How often did Source Image Finder recover a larger image?

On 17 of the 20 tested Shopify pages, Source Image Finder found at least one image with a larger public version. It did not find a larger file for every image.

Source Image Finder recovered a larger public version for 426 of the 1,504 image families tested.

At least one image was improved on 17 of the 20 Shopify pages.

What counts as an image family?

An image family groups versions that represent the same underlying image, such as responsive sizes of the same product photo. This prevents several size variants of one image from being counted as unrelated images.

How the benchmark was measured

  • Every public Shopify page was scanned using the same process.
  • Responsive versions representing the same underlying image were grouped into image families.
  • We compared the width and height measured from the image files.
  • A recovery counted as improved only when the recovered public file was larger.
  • The recovered file also had to match the same underlying image.
  • We compared the total number of pixels, not the file size in bytes.

What this benchmark does not measure

This benchmark does not compare Source Image Finder with ExtractPics, Imageye, ImgDownloader, or other image downloaders.

Limitations

These results apply to the 20 Shopify pages tested. Other stores can use different themes, CDNs, image structures, and responsive-image settings.

Some webpages may already serve their largest public image, while others may not expose a larger public version at all.
